Are you safe to work in your current job? Will your health condition affect your job performance? Do you have a worker with these problems?
Fitness for Duties Assessments are a type of independent medical assessment where the doctor has been asked to determine whether your job is likely to put your health and safety at risk, or if your health condition affects your ability to safely perform the duties of your job.
You will need to allow 1 hour for this consultation. As the doctor will ask you to fill in a simple question before the consultation begins, please arrive at least 15 minutes early, and bring copies of all of your investigations and reports with you.
The doctor may want to talk with your employer to obtain specific information about your job.
The doctor will read you file before your arrive, and during the consultation will ask you a lot of detailed questions and examine you (as relevant). In most cases the doctor will want time to consider everything before offering his opinion. Typical recommendations may include:
- You are fit to perform all of your duties without restriction
- You are temporarily unfit for some aspects of your job, but may be able to become fit if you undertake specific treatment.
- You are permanently unfit for some aspects of your job.
- You are permanently unfit for all aspects of your job.
Provided that your employer agrees, the doctor will sent a copy of his report to your treating doctor(s).
You may bring a support person with you to the consultation, and a chaperone will be provided if required.
